Can plants eat people? Probably not, but there are many plants that eat meat. Some of them are big. And they can eat small animals. One famous meat-eating plant is the Venus flytrap.

The Venus flytrap is a very strange plant. It grows in dry parts of the United States. Its leaves are like the pages of a book. They can open and close very quickly. Inside the leaves, there are three small hairs. If a fly touches one of the hair, the leaf presses the fly until it is dead. Then, the plant covers the fly. Slowly, the plant eats the fly.

Why do plants do it? Most plants get what they need from the sun, the air, and the ground. In some places, the ground is very poor. It doesn’t have all these important things, especially nitrogen(氮). Animal meat has a lot of nitrogen, so some plants eat meat to get what they need. Let’s hope that some of the bigger plants don’t get the same idea!

What are the hottest words of 2008 in China? Google gave its list this month.

“Shanzhai”, a Chinese word, which means “copying”, is top of the list. It’s true that “Shanzhai” is everywhere. It refers to all kinds of homemade products. There are “Shanzhai” movies, songs, and TV programs. Some people even tried to prepare for a “shanzhai” Spring Festival gala last year. “Shanzhai” is popular because it provides the ordinary people a chance to take part in many activities. Meanwhile, it brings about a risk of breaking copyright laws.

The second hottest word is an ancient Chinese character “囧”. It is pronounced “jiong”. It used to mean “light shining through a window”. Now young Chinese use it to express embarrassment, or a bad mood. Look at the character, doesn't it look like a disappointed face?

The newly intvented Chinese Charater “槑” is the fourth hottest. Pronounced “méi”, the word is a different form of the word “梅”. But it also looks like a double version of the character “呆”, which means stupid. So young people nowadays have borrowed it to mean “very silly or very stupid”.

What will be the hottest words of 2009 in China then? I guess “ financial crisis” and “H1N1 flu” will be on the list. Here are the reasons. “ financial crisis” brought China some serious problems and one of them is that many people lost their jobs. They say “I lost my job because of the financial crisis! ” Also,we can often hear a terrible disease called “H1N1 Flu”, it has caused hundreds of death. “ Many pigs are ill, so I don’t buy pork now” people say so.

These two words are often heard now. But things are always changing, who knows what will be the hottest? Let’s wait and see.

If the only sports you do are dancing your fingers across your keyboard, you could be in serious danger of more than just becoming overweight and out of shape.

Do you often feel sleepy, like something is weighing down on your head? Do you feel forgetful? Do you sometimes feel uncomfortable up and down your neck and lower back, and you can’t explain why? Do you get sick often? It could be radiation(辐射) from your computer causing it. If you spend three hours or more a day in front of a computer,(and at this point, who doesn’t?) You are more easily harmed by the hazard(危险).

We have got so used to using computers that we often neglect(忽视) to think of them as dangerous sources of harmful radiation. A safe amount of radiation is 25 V/m(Volts/meter). Do you want to guess how much our personal computers give off?

Keyboard: 1000 V/m

Mouse: 450 V/m

Monitor: 218 V/m

CPU: 170 V/m

Notebook computers: 2,500 V/m

Ways to Protect Yourself from Harmful Computer Radiation

1. Decorate your desk with cactus(仙人掌) plants, they take in radiation.

2. Drink two to three cups of green tea a day and eat an orange daily. The vitamins in tea leaves and oranges protect us from radiation and keep our eyes healthy as well.

3. Use a screen filter for your monitor.

4. Avoid having metal objects(金属物体) nearby on your desk.

5. Put the back of the computer to the wall. Most of the radiation comes off the back.

6. Keep your monitor at least 50cm away from your face.

7. Keep your computer rooms ventilated.(空气流通的).

8. Eat healthily-especially fruits and vegetables.
