I Teaching content

1. Four new words: spring, summer, autumn, winter. the new structure “Which season do you like best? I like… Why? Because it’s … I can …”

2. Ss listen to the short dialogue (6B Unit 5 Seasons Part A) and catch the meaning of the dialogue.

3. Ss can use the Internet to search information and talk about their favourite seasons.

II Teaching Aims

1. To develope Ss’ basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Speaking is the focus in this lesson.

2. Ss know something about seasons and they can search useful information they need on the web.

V Teaching Procedure

Step 1. Warming-up & lead-in

Free talk

T: Hello, boys and girls. Nice to meet you.

Q1: What day is it today?

Q2: How many months are there in a year?

Q3: How many seasons are there in a year?

Step 2 Presentation

Activity 1 Teach the new words

Q1: T: Look at the picture, What season is it now?

S: Spring. (出示单词spring板书)

In the same way to teach “ summer, autumn and winter”

Activity 2 Sing a song

Ss listen to the song “ four seasons make a year”, they can sing in chorus.

Activity 3 Teach the new structure

T: I like spring best. Because it’s warm. I can fly a kite.

T: Which season do you like best?

Sa: I like … best.

T: Why?

Sa: Because it’s … I can …

(Write the structure on the blackboard)

Then let them surf the pictures from the internet, and do pair work.

Step 3 Listening

Show the picture of the text

T ask the ss : Which season does Ben like best? Why? Let’s listen to the tape.

Ss: listen to the tape and answer (class work)

Eg: What’s the weather like in New York in spring /summer/autumn/winter?

Eg: What can people do in autumn/winter?

Step 4 Reading (class work)

Ss read by themselves. When they meet some words that they are not sure of the pronunciations they can ask for help from the internet.

Ss read in chorus.

Teacher can guide some difficult sentences which Ss can’t read clearly.

T: Now Su Yang is telling her dad about the weather in New York. Help her to complete the sentences.

Step 5 Production (group work, individual work)

T: What about the seasons in Suzhou, please discuss in groups.

Ss: (Some Ss report)

T: Which season do you like best ? Please write down a short passage in group.

Ss: finish the writing task .

Step6. Homework

1. Do a survey: ask your parents/friends/ relatives… about their favorite season 。

2. Surf the internet, compare the seasons in different places or different countries .

Design on the blackboard:
