Step III

Reading (Puzzles in    Geography)

Read the title and the map , guess what the content of the reading passage might be about

1.Skimming

 Ask students to skim the text and try to finish the tasks on the screen.

 1)Match main ideas with paragraphs.

 2)What is the text mainly about?

2.Scanning

 Get students to scan the passage ,try to get detailed information and then do the following on the screen.

  1)How many countries does the UK consist of?

  2)What are they?     (para1)

3.Careful-reading (search for detailed information)

 1) How was the UK formed?   

 2)The Union Jack flag unites the flag of three countries in the United Kingdom, which country is left out? Why?
