China is embracing the world with enthusiasm and learning English has become very popular, with 20 million more people starting learning English every year. I’m so happy to be one of the English enthusiasts. Luckily, in order to be well-prepared for the coming of the English speech competition, I got a chance to go abroad for four weeks. There is no doubt that I choose London. British English appeals to me most.

London is impressive enough. Olympic Games aside, London Eye, London Tower, Big Ben, Saint Paul’s Cathedral and Shakespeare’s birth place attract tens of thousands of tourists all around the world. To be honest, I exactly hate the British weather and the unpalatable British food. But I still love London so much because of the great English school, J.K’s story and the cool musicals.

I spent half of my journey on English school. Fortunately, the lessons were vivid and interesting because of Mike, the teacher who has a fine sense of humor. Once you hear his humorous remarks, you can’t help being attracted by his outgoing personality that seems contagious to people around him. Mike also has a brilliant skill to promote our British English. We learnt English via games, newspapers and movies. I believed everyone enjoyed the lessons which were totally different.

Besides, we absolutely visited the Christ Church. One of the things that fascinated us most about this church is the popular information that it’s the “real Hogwarts”. What surprised me is that somebody seized the chance to sell merchandise inside such as bookmarks, wands, Hogwarts badges and even the Golden Snitch. A lot of Chinese students couldn’t help buying the wands. As for me, I was crazy about brooding, threatening Draco Malfoy. But I didn’t want to spend 35 pounds on a memento. So I just looked around and enjoyed the gorgeous view.

As everybody knows High School Musical is a very fashionable American television film. Upon its release, it became the most successful film that Disney Channel Original Movie ever produced. I’ve been like a maniac insomniac to see it more than 20 times. Dancing, songs, actors and actresses, all of these appealed to me. Definitely, I was eager to watch a musical in London. To my astonishment, there were a lot of musicals in London. And I went to watch “Wicked” which is the most popular one at that time. The exquisite and delicate artistic decoration of the theater highlighted the musical and the mysterious style added emotion to it. It was really amazing! If it was not such expensive, I would watch two or three different musicals else.

Fu Ying, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People Republic of China, has said “Leaving London for me is like savoring the last sip of wine at the end of a party, still warm, but already tempered with a little sadness.” I have to admit that I got the same feeling too.

There is an old saying in China “however grand the feast, it always has to end.” I will miss the many friends and the teachers in London, who have supported me and helped me to understand this country and its people. If I can, I will come back without hesitate.
